Communiqué to Take a Stand Against Domestic Violence

The International Women of H.O.P.E. (IWOH) organization, based in Georgia, U.S.A., and collaborating with its sister organizations in the Republic of Haiti, sends its cordial and respectful greetings to women, young people, and children everywhere who are victimized by violence in the form of verbal, physical, economic and/or sexual abuse in various communities in Haiti.

IWOH, along with its partners, is writing this communiqué to raise its voice with all its might against the brutal physical abuse Mrs. Nice Simon experienced in the hands of Mr. Yves Léonard in the Tabarre District in Port-au-Prince, Haiti on October 2nd, 2018.

All of us at IWHO are appalled to see such abuse happening against our strong women in Haiti. We understand that many instances of violence go unreported. We applaud Mrs. Simon’s courage to come forward. For this, IWOH we respectfully request that the Ministry of the Women Affairs to please take a stand with us against such abuse to protect and defend the rights of many women like Mrs. Simon. In fact, the Ministry must stop the aggressor, Mr. Leonard, because he will keep attacking women in his Tabarre community and elsewhere. He must be properly interrogated and interviewed for his wrongful actions against women because his behavior sends a strong but wrong message to other women about men lacking manners and completely disrespecting them. Men like Mr. Leonard must be educated to avoid more of those occurrences of physical and verbal abuse in Haiti. Men must be taught to respect women as mothers; and how women should be honored and totally respected for simply bringing life into this world. Men like Mr. Leonard must be encouraged to try harder to show respect and to value the women in their lives because women are worth it. Especially, the men holding high-ranking positions in governmental agencies should set the examples for others to follow in our Haitian communities. Mr. Leonard’s actions is a slap in the women’s faces in Haiti; and it’s disempowering to many of them.

IWOH and its partners are directly addressing Mr. Leonard by asking him to please respect women and to allow women like Mrs. Nice Simon to keep their self-respect and dignity. IWOH and its partner urge the proper authorities in Haiti to do what’s right in defending Mrs. Simon’s rights as a woman. Simply put, Mr. Leonard should be adequately and severely punished for the bodily, emotional, and psychological harms he’s inflected upon Mrs. Simon. Furthermore, all women working for the Haiti government must have the courage to show their support to Mrs. Simon by taking a stand against Domestic Violence with her. She’s one of us everywhere!

In conclusion, IWOH and its partners are formerly calling all women and young women on social media outlets, such as, Facebook Twitter, Instagram, etc. to speak of this in a respectful manner, to pray for women victimized like Mrs. Simon, and most of all, to STOP blaming Mrs. Simon or other victims of Domestic Violence for what happens to them. DOMESTIC VIOLENCE or PHYSICAL ABUSE IS NEVER JUSTIFIED. IT IS WRONG. So, by negatively criticizing Mrs. Simon and other victims, we must be careful not to perpetuate that cycle of Domestic Violence. Let’s not reinforce the stigma by posting pictures of Mrs. Simon at her worst. That’s further degrading her; and it’s completely unnecessary and uncalled for. On the other hand, it would be more helpful to share the aggressor’s pictures, Mr. Leonard, to warn other women by publicly exposing and shaming him.

Let’s continue to educate and promote healthy relationships so that women understand how important it is to avoid becoming victims of Domestic Violence at the hands of disrespectful men like Mr. Leonard who do not value women and simply enjoy disempowering and hurting them. WOMEN, LET’S EMPOWER AND EDUCATE ONE ANOTHER FOR OUR CHILDREN’S FUTURE.

Communiqué Expliquant notre Position contre la Violence Domestique

L’organisation International Women of H.O.P.E. (IWOH), basée dans l’état de Georgie aux EUA, et en collaboration avec d’autres organisations partenaires en Haiti, félicite et présente ses salutations les plus cordiales et respectueuses à toutes les femmes et enfants affectés par l’acte odieux posé par Monsieur Yves Léonard à Tabarre, ville de Port-au-Prince, le 2 octobre 2018 écoulé. Nous profitons de cette occasion pour réitérer notre méssage centré sur le combat contre la Violence Doméstique qui se présente sous plusieurs formes d’abus: physiquement, émotionellement, psychologiquement, séxuellement, et de manière économique dans nos communautés haitiènnes. IWOH et ses collaborateurs éxpriment d’un commun accord leurs profonds soucis fondés par l’attaque brutale subie par Madame Nice Simon aux mains sauvages de Monsieur Yves Léonard.

Nous sommes tous choqués de lire cette nouvelle, qui nous confirme de manière concrète, que beaucoup de femmes instruites et même proféssionelles en Haiti sont victimes d’abus sous une forme ou une autre. Et nous sommes imbus du fait que beaucoup de ces cas de Violence Doméstique ne sont pas reportés aux autorités locales. Ceci dit, nous applaudissons Madame Simon d’avoir eu le courage de formèllement porter plainte contre Monsieur Léonard.

IWOH et ses partenaires sur le terrain faitent appel au Ministère de la Condition Féminine afin qu’il prenne des decisions clés capables d’aider et de supporter les victimes de la Violence Doméstique en Haiti tout en condamnant fermement les aggrésseurs qui causent beaucoup de tort aux femmes qui ne sont pas en mesure de se defender de manière adequate. Nous osons augurer que certaines mesures de prevention seront prises afin d’instruire les familles en Haiti en traitant du sujet concernant la Violence Domestique et sur toutes ses formes. Nous devons nous acharner à révaloriser les femmes en Haiti qui sont, avant tout, nos mères, filles, soeurs, etc. Il est plus que temps de pénaliser ces hommes comme Monsieur Léonard afin qu’ils prennent le temps de bien réfléchir aux consequences de leurs affronts contre les femmes qui ne sont pas en mesure de se défendre ou de saufegarder leur dignité à laquelle elles ont un droit inné. Il est plus que temps d’entamer avec courage et détermination des programmes pour supporter les femmes victimes physiquement, émotionellement, et psychologiquement des actions posées par leurs aggrésseurs. Madame Simon nous représente toutes partout ailleurs!

En conclusion, IWOH et ses collaborateurs lancent un appel aux femmes et enfants qui utilisent les medias sociaux comme Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, etc. afin qu’ils fassent preuve de bon sens et de vigilance en traitant du sujet de la Volience Domestique. Il ne s’agit pas de condamner les victimes en éxposant leurs photos à leur point le plus faible qui les dénigrent ou de les critiquer ouvertement et publiquement. Demeurons tous certains qu’AUCUNE VIOLENCE DOMESTIQUE PEUT ÊTRE JUSTIFIÉE OU TOLÉRÉE quand ceci cause beaucoup de torts et laisse des séquelles physiques, psychiques, et émotionelles aux victimes. Ceci dit, arrêtons donc de culpabiliser Madame Simon en portant un jugement négatif sur sa personne et en publiant ses photos. Il ne faut surtout pas réinforcer ce sujet taboo en accusant les victimes de manière érronée. Il faut de préférence exposer le coupable, Monsieur Léonard, afin que tout le monde sachent ce qu’il représente entant qu’homme.

Acharnons nous donc continuellement afin d’instruire et de promouvoir des relations saines entre les hommes et les femmes en Haiti. Ainsi les femmes comprendront mieux l’importance de reporter ces affronts aux autorités locales. Enseignons aux enfants que les femmes méritent beaucoup de respect et d’être valorisées. FEMMES, SOYONS FERMES ET SOLIDAIRES AFIN DE TRACER UN EXEMPLE POUR NOS ENFANTS ET D’ASSURER UN MEILLEUR FUTUR POUR LES VICTIMES DE LA VIOLENCE DOMESTIQUE.
